What Are Organic Sales

Any sale without a GCLID is considered an organic sale, and for that reason it cannot be sent to Google Ads as a conversion.

The GCLID (Google Click Identifier) is the unique identifier of the ad that generated the sale. This information is required for Google Ads to be able to link the conversion to the click that produced it.

Why was my sale recorded as organic?

The main causes are:

1. It's not a real sale — it's a test made during setup

Some affiliate platforms have a button to test whether the setup is correct — in those cases, a test sale is generated without a GCLID.

2. The sale didn't come from a paid ad

In this case, there's no GCLID to send to Google Ads. While possible, this situation is usually rare.

3. The affiliate platform didn't send the required data

In very rare cases, the affiliate platform may not provide the information needed to record the conversion.

4. Sales tracking on the presell wasn't active at the time of the sale

This is the most common cause. It happens when the tracking platform wasn't selected while generating the presell.

To check:

  1. Go to My Pages in the left side menu.
  2. Find the presell used in the sale.
  3. Check the status of the Sales tracker field.

If the status shows "Not detected", click "Activate Sales Tracking". After activation, future sales will correctly record the GCLID. Learn more: How to enable sales tracking on your presell

This is the second most common cause. It happens when, instead of copying the direct link from the affiliate platform (ClickBank, Digistore24, etc.), the user opens the link in the browser and copies the final URL from the address bar — which has already gone through redirects and changed.

How to avoid it: always copy the affiliate link directly from inside your platform and paste it into AdsX, exactly as shown in How to register products.

See how to fix it below:

Important: activating tracking applies to future sales, not past ones. Sales that happened before activation and were recorded without a GCLID (organic) cannot be recovered or sent to Google Ads.
